About the walking trip in Portugal

Lisbon is known as being one of the best places to visit in Portugal. The city’s history traces its steps all the way back to the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romains and Arabization which lasted for over 5 centuries.  The capital of Portugal boasts a great location, nestled between the hills and with a coastal access and the Tagus estuary. The Mediterranean climate means that it is never too hot thanks to the Atlantic breeze, perfect weather for your Portugal walking holiday.
The historical centre counts 7 hills, with steep winding roads, some so steep in fact that is it impossible to access by car. But there are cable cars ferrying people to and fro and offer stunning views over the city.
These beautiful hills with their narrow streets, small squares, stone steps and belvederes with their black and white pave stones make Lisbon the ideal destination for a walking holiday.

City Trek, walking in Lisbon : Day by Day 

Day 1 - Arrival in Lisbon

  • Arrive on your own in Lisbon city Centre. 
  • Free day in Lisbon. Suggestion : Depending on your arrival time, take the tram line No 28, the most spectacular in Lisbon (terminal Martm moniz square or Estrela). Visit the Azulejos or the Calouste Gulbekian Museum. Enjoy and evening of Fado music, one of the best things to do in Portugal     
  • Night in Lisbon

  • Market in Lisbon: Mercado da Ribeira, the famous market in Lisbon close to Cais do Sodré station. Open everyday, with many places to eat and regular events and entertainement

  • We recommend : 
    . Having an extra night in Lisbon and enjoy strolling through the streets of this beautiful city on the Tagus river !

Day 2 - Walk in the historical quarters

  • Walk - The Historical quarters of Lisbon
    3 hours /  8 km - 5 miles / Ascent: +500 - Descent: - 500m
  • The hills of Lisbon are dotted with alleyways, old steps, small squares and belevederes, a great playground for all walkers. Our itinerary will take you to the really interesting quarters such as "Baixa" with its classical 18th century architecture, the medieval quarter of "Mouraria", the "belvederes" of São Vicente and Santa Luzia with stunning views, and the famous "Alfama" home to some of the best Fado music venues the city has to offer.
  • Our suggestion : Visit São Jorge castle  (open from 9am to 6pm - price: 10€/pers), for one of the best views of the capital of Portugal.

Day 3 - From Lisbon to Belem along the Tagus river

  • 4 hours / 10 km - 6.2 miles / Ascent: +100 - Descent: - 100m
  • From the main Praça do Comercio, this walk follows the Tagus river towards the Ocean to Bélem. Bélem is a place of great symbolic importance as many of the city's monuments and tourist attractions are based here. Bélem also has a rich maritime history and boasts the Monastery of Jeronimos and the Bélem tower, two architectural masterpieces of the early XVI century. We recommend returning to Lisbon by tramway.
  • Our suggestion : Have lunch in the famous pasteleria de Bélem and sample a famous "pastel de Nata"

Day 4 - End of your trip in Lisbon
