A walking stay in Provence - self guided
A day in the life of an Intura walker
8:30am - You start the day with a hearty breakfast at your guest house, perhaps in the breakfast room or on the terrace in the morning sun. Fresh coffee, tea, croissants, pain au chocolat, baguette, butter, jams, fruit. Just what you need to build up your energy levels for walking Provence.
9:00am - Pack your bags (suitcase and backpack) and with a final look under the bed, quick scan of the bathroom and a patting of pockets to ensure that you have everything, you head to reception where you leave your suitcases and take with you just a backpack with the essentials for the day. We’ll take care of the big bags, ensuring they safely reach your next accommodation before you do.
9:10am - You lace up your walking shoes and off you go! A day of exploration has begun! Hiking in Provence is fun! Using our roadbooks and map, enjoy navigating your way through a foreign country admiring the beautiful landscapes as you go.
Between 10am and midday - You're clocking up the kilometres, following our roadbook, enjoying the peace and quiet of the lesser trodden paths. Perhaps you’ll deviate slightly off track to explore a church ruin or dry-stone hut in a field. Perhaps you’ll get talking to a friendly passer-by, maybe you’ll linger at the local market in one of the Lubéron villages, picking up some goodies for a picnic lunch and then be seduced by the irresistible smell of coffee to a vacant table on a café terrace.
1pm - With weary legs and a rumbling stomach, you’ll stop off for lunch. Our roadbooks recommend some great restaurants or point out the best picnic spots.
2:30pm - After a delicious meal, you drain that last drop of wine from the glass, wipe the crumbs from your clothes and pick up your itinerary for the 2nd part of the day.
Around 4pm - You arrive at your guesthouse middle to late afternoon where your bags will be waiting for you, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the owner, perhaps even a welcome drink and then settle into your room and indulge in a nice well earnt hot shower or bath.
7:30pm - A change of clothes and feeling as fresh as a daisy, you head out for dinner either at a pre booked restaurant or one chosen by yourself and dine with the locals on your Provence walking holiday. Enjoy some traditional cuisine and great wine. Bon appétit!
Around 10:30pm - Sleep like a baby that night then wake up and do it all again tomorrow!
What to bring
We transfer your main bags from A to B throughout your trip. For your Provence walking tour we recommend bringing a backpack (approx. 30L) with a sweater, a light rain jacket, water, sun cream, sunglasses, sun hat, a camera and a cell phone. You will also need comfortable walking shoes and we also recommend walking poles.
The perfect inn
We understand that the accommodation is a huge part of the trip. We’ll book you into friendly guest houses or bed & breakfasts where the owners will welcome you personally. We have selected accommodations of great character, charm & tradition, often with a little quirkiness thrown in for good measure!
