Where to go on your walking holiday in Provence?
The Alpilles
Vincent van Gogh was one of the most famous inhabitants, having spent the last few years of his life in the artsy town of St Rémy de Provence. You can enjoy a walking holiday in Provence retracing the brush strokes of Van Gogh and hike through the Alpilles mountains, taking in the scenery that inspired some of his greatest work. Enjoy days spent surrounded by olive groves and pine forests and visit the beautiful roman city of Arles with its impressive amphitheatre.
The Lubéron
Explore the Lubéron on a trip through some of the prettiest village in France: Gordes, Lacoste & Isle sur la Sorgue. Our tours of Provence in the Lubéron boast scenic hiking trails past lavender fields, old stone shepherd huts and lone farmhouses, shaded village squares for enjoying a refreshing drink or a delicious lunch and trips to the local markets.
The Dentelles mountain range
If you love good wine, then this is the walking holiday in Provence for you! Walking from one wine making village to the next with plenty of time for wine tasting along the way! The chiseled peaks of the Dentelles Mountain range and the majestic Mont Ventoux paint the backdrop to your hikes. Treat yourself to a wine tour with a local expert and learn all about the infamous Côte du Rhône wines. We offer private and non-private tours in small group that complement the theme of the trip splendidly.
The highlights of our tours of Provence
Landscapes of Provence
Our tours of Provence by bike lead you off the beaten track, along small country lanes and through cherry orchards and olive groves, taking in miles and miles of picture postcard Provencal landscapes: old stone farmhouses, cypress trees, rows of lavender and sunflowers, and vineyards as far as the eye can see.
The Camargue
Travel down to the very south of Provence and explore the Camargue by bike. Salt flats, marshes, flamingoes, wild bulls and horses and vast expanses of land and beaches that stretch for miles. Old traditions have very much been kept alive in the Camargue and it doesn’t get much more authentic than that!
The Mont Ventoux
Enjoy Provence bike trips around the infamous Mont Ventoux, a renowned stage of the Tour de France. Pretty wine-making villages lay at the foot of the ‘Giant of Provence’ and if you have the level of fitness required and the will to succeed, then why not dedicate an entire day to tackle the Mont Ventoux, cycling up alongside forests of pine trees to reach the lunar landscape summit at 1 912m.
And of course, on all of our tours of Provence, whether on foot or in the saddle, we guarantee a culinary exploration of some delicious local cuisine, including tapenade, bull stew & ratatouille. You are bound to come across local markets, so take the time to meander and admire the stalls overflowing with fruit, vegetables, textiles and ceramics.
