A walking holiday through the vineyards of Provence
Provence is well known for many things: olives, olive oil, lavender, cicadas and, of course, wine. We’re sure that you would recognise “Chateauneuf du Pape” from many a wine bottle label! The village of Chateauneuf du Pape is located in South Eastern France, in the PACA region, just a few kilometres from Avignon. It owes its worldwide fame to the fact that it produces quality wines due to the exceptional richness of the soil. Discover the village of Chateauneuf du Pape and the vineyards on your Provence walking holiday and enjoy a wine tour, an original way of learning more about the wine making process and discovering the secrets behind the scenes.
The wine tour
Our wine tours can be booked for a full day or a half day (morning or afternoon) and can be non-private or private. You will be accompanied by a wine expert, eager to share his passion with you. If you choose to book a private wine tour you will have the privilege of having our expert just for you and really get up close and personal with the local wine. If you opt for a non-private tour, it’s a great way to meet other people and exchange and share your wine interests. No one option is necessarily better than the other, it really depends on what you would prefer.
Visiting the wineries in Chateauneuf du Pape
On a full day wine tour (private and non-private), our wine expert will pick you up from either Avignon or Chateauneuf du Pape and head into the vineyards for a leisurely stroll and an overall review of the wine making process. You then enjoy a visit and some wine tasting in a family run estate and a Chateau. Our wine expert will then recommend a great local restaurant for lunch (not included) followed by more tasting in 2 more wine estates in the afternoon. The half day tour takes place either before or after lunch and includes the walk through the vineyards and wine tastings in 2 estates.
Walking holiday in Provence: walking and wine
The landscape in Provence is blanketed by vineyards and Chateauneuf du Pape is not the only place for a wine tour. We can also organise a tour in the Rhône Valley in and around Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaume de Venise, to name just a few of the beautiful provencal villages renowed for their wine. Lubéron wine also has a status within the industry and a Provence walking holiday through this picture postcard region, with its perched medieval villages, olive groves and lavender fields offers many wine tasting opportunities.
