About the Provence day trip: walking in St Remy - Easy
About the guided day trip in St Remy de Provence
Group rate for 4 persons ( contact us if less or more)
You will discover the famous Van Gogh provence ! Starting from the centre of Saint Remy with your guide, you stroll along country lanes towards the spectacular Alpilles mountains. You begin a pleasant climb up a shaded and winding track, up a valley laden with pine and cedar trees. Before long, you reach the crest of the Alpilles Mountains along a rocky trail that leads to a rounded summit where the 360° view, on a clear blue Provence day, extends all the way to the Mediterranean Sea.
We return to Saint Remy where we'll visit the monastery - turned asylum - where Van Gogh spent the last year of his life. And depending on the season and the opening hours - if time permits - you can enjoy a tasting of some of the region’s famed olive oils.
- Loop Walk - St Remy > Crest of the Alpilles > St Remy
3 hours - 10km / 6.2 miles - Ascent: +300 m / Descent: -300 m - You meet your guide in the centre of St remy and start your hiking day towards the Alpilles mountain range.
- Depending on our pace, we will be back in Saint Rémy and finished by 4 to 5 pm.
Highlights of the day trip
- Easy walk through the olive groves that blanket the foothills of the Alpilles Mountains
- The ciseled wild crest of the Alpilles mountains
- Visit of St Paul de Mausole monastery where Van Gogh stayed
- Picnic with panoramic view (included)
- Olive oil tasting in St Remy (on opening days)
Day trip info

The walk
- The walk is 10km long in total, and you can expect up to 3.5 of walking time along the trails. The paths are easy underfoot but are rocky: you can choose to wear hiking boots but running shoes are sufficient if you're used to walking on uneven surfaces. There's a 10-minute uphill portion on a steep path (to reach the roundeed summit) followed by a 5-minute steep descent on loose rocks. Both of those sections can be avoided
