Self-guided bike trips: how to choose the one best suited to you?

Self-guided bike trips: how to choose the one best suited to you?

Do you like the idea of peddling at your own pace and in your own time? Do you enjoy the freedom of deciding when and where to stop for lunch? Are you happy to organize your days as you see fit? If the answer to all 3 questions is yes, then self-guided bike trips are what you’re looking for!

What is a self-guided cycling holiday?

self-guided cycling holiday is a great way to explore a new destination at your own pace. You can clock up the miles and cover more ground than on a walking tour. The freedom and ease of a bike means that you can easily take a small detour to go and visit some ruins that you spy in the distance, you can deviate slightly from the designated route to explore a forgotten hamlet that is just off the map, or you can peddle just those couple of extra miles outside of a town to have lunch in a great restaurant.

Here at Intura, our track finders have covered the groundwork. We have cycled the length and width of Provence to determine the best ‘off the beaten track” paths. We have sweated up many a steep hill (and there are a few in Provence!) to ensure our routes lead you to some of the most stunning perched villages in the region.

Our self-guided bike trips are put together and given to you in a detailed roadbook that includes written notes of the routes and the number of kilometres travelled. We also include footnotes with cultural references and points of interest. We provide highlighted maps as well as an IGN map of the region to ensure that your self-guided cycling holiday goes as smoothly as possible.

A bike tour just for you

We have routes that lead you through the picture postcard scenes of Provence; the lavender fields, olive groves, vineyards and cherry orchards. We have a cycling holidays that take you through the famous wine-making villages with a view of the Mont Ventoux as a permanent backdrop to your days, and we have a trip that takes you down to the Pont du Gard and pretty town of Uzès.

You will travel light on your self-guided bike trip; your luggage is transferred hotel to hotel by our professional and friendly taxi partners. You just need to take a small backpack with the essentials for the day. The bikes are also equipped with panniers, ideal for storing picnic items or souvenirs that you pick up route. So, after a delicious breakfast, you just hop on your bikes and follow our route notes, taking all the time you need.

Self-guided bike trips with good quality and reliable bikes

We have been working with our bike partner for years (we can almost count the time in decades!). Philippe provides high-end bikes that are regularly serviced and checked over before each bike tour.

Your bikes will be delivered to your first and picked up from your last accommodation. All of our self-guided bike trips include the necessary equipment including helmet, bike lock and panniers. There is also a phone support for optimal viewing of the GPS files of your route. The electric bikes are equipped with a battery with an autonomy of around 90km, more than enough to complete each cycling day. The battery is taken off the bike at the end of the day and charged in your hotel room overnight, ready for the next days cycle.

If you are hesitating and unable to decide which of our self-guided bike trips is best for you, then get in touch. We can customise any bike tour, modify the duration of the trip, and help you create the cycling trip of a lifetime.
