Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Dijon : the capital of the Dukes of Burgundy

Arrival on your own in Dijon. Walk through the cobbled streets of the historic centre, visit the Palace of the Dukes, the Museum of Fine Art and the Notre-Dame church featuring a Black Madonna statue.

Day 2 - Walking to the famous "Nuits Saint Georges" village

After breakfast, a short 30 min transfer to Gevrey-Chambertin where you start your walk through the heart of the Burgundy vineyards on quiet farming tracks and paths. You visit the charming towns of Chambolle-Musigny and Morey St. Denis before arriving at the prestigious 16th century Chateau Clos de Vougeot. You can visit the Chateau and also book (in advance) a wine tasting-lunch (not included). Your next stop is Vosne Romanée where some of the region's most celebrated wines are produced entirely from the Pinot noir grape.

Day 3 - Loop walk around Nuits Saint Georges

This walk leaves the Côte de Nuits and its vineyards to explore the wooded hills to the west of Nuits Saint Georges. You pass through forests and meadows overlooking the valley of the river "Le Meuzin". Alternatively, you can choose to spend the day at leisure, visit Le Cassisium to learn more about the blackcurrent, the primary ingredient for "Crème de Cassis" :  an alcohol liqueur produced in the region. Or you can simply unwind and relaxy by the pool or watch the world go by whilst sipping a glass of wine on a terrasse café. We recommend an o ptional wine tour in Nuits Saint Georges - everyday except Wednesdays, Saturday, Sunday & bank holidays - Contact us for details.

Day 4 - On the way to Beaune : the capital of Burgundy wine

You are soon in the countryside walking through oak forests on peaceful paths leading to an authentic winegrowing village:  Savigny-les-Beaune, a rarity in the "Côte de Beaune", as this village produces "Crémant de Bourgogne" a festive wine. From the church of Saint-Cassien and its splendid listed Romanesque bell tower, to the formal garden of the Chandon de Briailles Manor House, the village has some wonderful gems in store for you. You then continue to Beaune, the capital of Burgundy’s wine industry.

Day 5 - Free day or loop walk around Beaune

hiking in France in Burgundy in Beaune FranceWithin the ramparts, Beaune will reveal its charm: mansions, beautiful wood-frame homes and flower-laden squares. Visit a mustard-manufacture "La Maison Fallot" and taste new creations such as mustard flavoured with blackcurrant, tarragon, honey, gingerbread and you can even make it yourself! Today you have several ways to spend your day:
. Head into the countryside to explore the Montagne de Baune, a hill west of Beaune partly occupied by beautiful houses overlooking the Cotes de Beaune.
. Or stroll on the Saturday morning marketthis is the best place to taste local produce, bite into a piece of fruity Cîteaux cheese produced by the monks, a tasty Delice de Pommard or a creamy Brillat Savarin, try the marbled ham, smell the truffle and taste gingerbread flavoured with honey.  Enjoy a visit to the imposing mansion of the Dukes of Burgundy, the basilica of Notre Dame and the most famous of all the sights in Beaune: the steep pitched patterned roofs of the Hotel Dieu an ancient hospital now featuring a fine arts museum.

Day 6 - Hiking to Meursault

Just a stone's throw away from the centre of Beaune, above the plains of the Saône and heading up the slope, are the Clos de Beaune "Premier Cru" wines. You will stroll through the parcels of vines separated by ancient stone walls and sprinkled with “cabiottes” (winemakers cabins), before reaching the village of Pommard. The wines are a deep red in colour with the flavours of ripe berries, which you can taste at "Domaine Le Jeune". Next is the town of Volnay nestled in the hills, offering fine reds.  As you ascend through boxwood and pine forests, you reach the village of Mothélie with its Romanesque church, chateau, old homes, and great cellars before arriving in Meursault. You can visit the renowned Château de Meursault, both a visual and tasteful delight, with its 14th and 16th century cellars guarding prestigious bottles of wine.

Day 7 - Bye bye Burgundy
