Itinerary

Day 1 - Avignon & St Remy de Provence

Arrive on your own in Avignon. Afternoon transfer from Avignon to St Remy de Provence. Explore the artsy Saint-Rémy and stroll through the streets, and choose a restaurant  for your dinner this evening!

Day 2 - The Van Gogh trail

. Walk Option : walk along the Van Gogh trail, all the way to St Paul de Mausole monastery where Van Gogh spent over a year creating over 150 paintings, and some of his best work. Head into the sunlit hills and explore the romain ruins of Glanum and the Antiques.

Day 3 - St Remy and the crests of the Alpilles

Day 4 - From the Roman ruins to Maussane village

Day 5 - Vineyards and olives trees to the perched Baux de Provence

walking holidays provence in the olive trailsYour walking day continues with a circular walk up to the sculpted limestone “valley of hell” towards the perched village of Les Baux de Provence: its homes packed tightly and defiantly on top of the cragged rock, earning its listing as one of the most beautiful villages in France. You then continue towards the renowned silvery-green olive groves, and back to the village of Maussane.

Day 6 - Saint Gabriel chapel to Arles

You head westward on the ridge path through the Alpilles mountains with outstanding views of Mont Ventoux, the Montagnette and the Rhône Valley, all the way to the very end of the Alpilles range. Descend through hills and pine forests to the 12th century Romanesque Saint Gabriel Chapel. A short transfer at the end of the walk drops you in Arles,  in the heart of the roman city  to explore Van Gogh’s second home and discover the treasures of the city’s Romanesque centre! 

Walk : Les Baux > Chapelle St Gabriel | 5h | 14km - 9 miles | Elevation : +100m / 350m
