It is often said that each island of the archipelago has its own colour and authenticity but here on these small stretches of land, the isolation plays a large part.
Nature is wonderfully exuberant in relation to their size: whether it is the lakes or the infinite waterfalls of Flores or the immensity of the crater in Corvo, these small islands in the vast Atlantic are a haven of peace and serenity.

A rare experience for nature lovers and all those in search of the unusual !

Day 1 - Flores: the flower Island

  • End of your self guided trip to Sao Miguel or the central group or Terceira.
  • Flight to Flores Island. Flores - the westernmost island of the Azores and last stop before heading to America - is a "little paradise on earth" thanks to its vegetation, enchanting waterfalls and numerous lakes. Pick up your car rental at the airport of Flores.
  • Depending on your arrival time, you may have time to drive around the island or do one of the hikes described on day 2 .

  • Simple : Drive to Faja Grande on the west coast.
  • Night in Faja Grande 

  • Comfort : Drive to Santa Cruz 5 minute from the airport
  • Night in Santa Cruz

Day 2 - Exploring Flores

  • Today you have the choice between 3 hikes depending on your mood and the weather conditions
    . Important: these are one-way hikes and require a one-way or round trip transfer. These transfers by taxi are not included and must be reserved and paid for on site.

  • Option 1 : Lagoa Negra view point > Poço do bacalhau > Faja Grande
    3 hours - 9 km / 5,6 miles - Ascent: +160 m / Descent: -685 m
    . From the old pastures, you walk down towards the “Escada do Mar” up to Poça do Bacalhau and Faja Grande. This track will take you past 4 out of the 7 lakes that are on the island and across the Natural Park of Morro Alto and Pico da Sé. Spectacular panoramas guaranteed !
    . If you stay in Faja Grande, park your car in the village. In this case you only need a one way transfer.
    . If you stay in Santa Cruz you need a round trip transfer.

  • Option 2 : Faja Grande > Albernaz Lighthouse
    3 hours 30 - 10,5km /6,5 miles - Ascent: +570 m / Descent: -500 m
    . Without doubt, one of the most beautiful walks of this island. From Faja Grande, the itinerary follows old cliffside bridle paths, that offer incredible viewpoints over the coast and the neighbouring island of Corvo. Small streams, hydrangeas and heather follow the course of this walk down to the Albernaz lighthouse, Europe’s westernmost lighthouse.
    . If you stay in Faja Grande, park your car in the village. In this case you only need a return transfer.
    . If you stay in Santa Cruz you need a round trip transfer.

  • Option 3 : Lagedo village > Poço da Alagoinha (or Patas lake)
    3 hours 15 - 10 km /6,2 miles - Ascent: +575 m / Descent: -615 m
    . Explore the wild yet sublime west coast of the island of Flores on ancient roads used to link the different villages. Some of the villages have remained truly authentic and boast incredible views of the coast. The itinerary ends at the Poço da Alagoinha, a fairy tale setting with its several amazing waterfalls. This site is also the emblem of the island. 
    . If you stay in Faja Grande, you only need a one way transfer.
    . If you stay in Santa Cruz you need a round trip transfer.

  • Night in Faja Grande or Santa Cruz

Day 3 - Corvo Island, the smallest one of the archipelago

  • Caldeira of Corvo > Vila do Corvo
    3 hours 30 - 8 km / 5 miles - Ascent: +160 m / Descent: -695 m
  • Today you drive with your rental car to the small port of Santa Cruz where you take the ferry (40 min) to visit the smallest island of the Azores: Corvo! With a length of only 6.5km and a width of 4km, Corvo is a volcanic island that has been listed by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve.
    It boasts at its centre a beautiful crater, the result of the destruction of its central cone. The crater is draped with thousands of hydrangeas, a small lake and many smaller volcanic cones that according to the inhabitants of the island, look like the Azorean archipelago. After enjoying a walk around and inside the crater, the walk continues along hydrangea fields down to Vila Nova where you will take the ferry back to Flores (another 40 min). Drive back to your accommodation with your rental car
  • Night in Faja Grande or Santa Cruz
  • MEALS included: Breakfast

Day 4 - Exploring Flores

  • Today you have the choice between the 3 hikes mentionned on day 2.
    . Keep in mind that these hikes are one-way hikes and require a one-way or round trip transfer. These transfers by taxi are not included and must be reserved and paid for on site.
  • Night in Faja Grande or Santa Cruz
  • MEALS included: Breakfast

  • We  recommend : 
    . Add one extra night to have the opportunity to complete all 3 walks! 

Day 5 - Return to Faial, Terceira or Sao Miguel Island

  • After breakfast, drop off your rental car at the airport.
    Then you take a domestic flight to either Faial, Sao Miguel or Terceira to get your connecting flight or continue your Azores walking holiday with one of our tours on these 3 islands.
  • MEALS included: Breakfast
